Kitchen and Bath Remodel

Bringing in Warmth, Richness and Function
This home in inner Southeast Portland was in fair shape, but the kitchen and first and second floor bathrooms were showing their age. The homeowner wanted to update the look of these rooms and improve their function and storage.
Generally, we were able to reuse many existing fixtures and made only minor changes to the layout. In the kitchen, when refacing the existing cabinets became unfeasible, new cabinets were made with salvaged wood and no-VOC finishes. Working with the client's taste we developed a palette of warm, rich earth tones for the tile and linoleum flooring that complements their other furnishings.
The downstairs bathtub was deemed unnecessary and the space was converted into two needed closets: a utility closet and an overflow guest coat closet (photos below). The design allows for a future reconversion to a bathtub when needs change. Also creative vanity solutions were required given the placement of radiators.
In the upstairs bathroom, much of the old tile was left intact and worked into the update. Whenever possible, local and USA made products were used including the tile, lighting fixtures, and no-VOC paint from Yolo Colorhouse.
